Behind the ScenesI started this painting en plein air, or outside, in June of 2019.Plein Air is great for capturing the light and atmosphere of a place.
After the plein air session, I was happy with the overall feel of the piece, but it was lacking in rugged details. So I decided to finish it in my studio.I thickened the cedar foliage and further defined the rock formations with more darks and highlights. The finished painting is a great representation of the rugged beauty along Lake Superior!
