Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula was once wealthy due to the lucrative copper mines. As the ore ran out and the profit margins grew thin, the mines closed. Most of them fell into ruins.
Some, like the Quincy mine in Hancock, have been partially restored and turned into parks.
