Fayette, Michigan is an historic iron smelting town on Lake Michigan. Iron ore was shipped here by the Jackson Mining Company in Negaunee, MI and made into pig iron.
The furnaces ceased operation in 1891, and the town was eventually abandoned. It’s now a Michigan State Park,. The old company buildings, businesses, and many homes have been restored and preserved in this beautiful setting under limestone cliffs.
